Branch Manager

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Branch Manager at our St. Paul, Highland Park location!

Position Summary

Deliver exceptional customer service while performing  a wide range of customer support related to consumer and business banking, including transaction processing as well as assisting customers with a variety of questions regarding consumer and business products, services, policies and regulations of the bank in a clear and pleasant manner.

Under the direction of the Director of Sales, expands customer base through fee generating activities, customer relationship building and deposit growth.  Oversees, participates in, directs and continuously monitors the sales culture within the Universal Banker areas.

Under the direction of the Director of Operations and in line with established policies and procedures, responsible for effective planning, coordination, direction and control of the Universal Banker staff while ensuring/maintaining audit compliance and timely completion of departmental administrative functions. Oversees, participates in, directs and continuously monitors the customer service culture within the Universal Banker areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, other duties may be assigned:

    • Manages branch staff including: Assistant Branch Manager, Universal Banker II, Universal Banker Floats and Universal Banker I including coaching, 1/1’s and annual performance reviews for their direct reports.
    • Using strong sales skills, expands the customer base through activities designed to emphasize fee service generation, deposit growth and customer relationship building such as growing loans, deposit accounts and other consumer and small business banking services to new and existing customers.
    • Develops sales strategies for the achievement of the branch sales goals and net income expectations.
    • Responsible for managing and growing the overall branch portfolio of both consumer and commercial customers.  This is accomplished by developing a proactive team of relationship building banker through actively training, coaching and inspecting staff to help them achieve their individual and team goals.
    • Personally responsible for managing and growing the loan and deposit portfolio of both small business customers and top consumer customers.
    • Must maintain high product and process knowledge on all retail products as well as Private Banking, Cash Management and Commercial Lending products and services.
    • Able to originate, underwrite, book and renew small commercial loans to existing customers, with knowledge on what and when to refer to SBA or Commercial Banker.
    • Refers customers to other bank departments for additional services.
    • Contacts current bank customers to solicit new business by phone to meet specific goals that expand banking services and is responsible for attaining established monthly and yearly deposit goals.
    • Meets with customers who come into the bank seeking banking services and makes recommendations as to what products and services will best meet the customer’s needs.
    • Maintains and grows the loan portfolio by accepting, underwriting, and approving consumer and small business loan applications, gathering the information needed to make credit decisions based on the bank’s loan policy. Explains all aspects of loan and requirements to customer. Oversees the consumer lending activities of Universal Banker II staff and performs approvals within their limits.
    • Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, motivating and scheduling Universal Banker staff with the Assistant Branch Manager. Responsible for performance management of staff to include maintaining customer service levels, product and service demonstrations and product knowledge.
    • Ensure all mandatory audits are being performed by assigned staff within required time period.
    • Responsible for the overall risk management of Branch Banking loan and deposit portfolio.  Ensures proper structure, approval, collateral perfection and monitoring of loans.  Required to identify and recommend risk rating downgrades, actively manages workout and recovery of problem loans.  Monitors past due loan and OD/NSF reports, as well as customer transaction activities, to minimize losses.  Performs annual review of loans as needed.
    • Reviews past due SDB to ensure banks guidelines are being followed.
    • Expected to ensure all Universal Banker staff is adequately trained in areas of sales and referral skills and product knowledge.
    • Facilitate volunteer activities within the Community to represent the bank in a professional manner.
    • Must positively adapt to a constantly changing environment and provide effective leadership to staff to guide them through change. Must create a positive atmosphere in the branch environment, partnering well with Business Banking and other departments in the branch to maximize teamwork.
    • Work with Assistant Branch Manager to decision PTO requests, review HR issues as needed and confirm scheduling between Universal Banker I, II’s and Floats.
    • Expected to ensure all branch staff is adequately trained in all areas of their job: sales and referral skills, product knowledge, policies, procedures, regulatory and security compliance.
    • Responsible for the development and monitoring of the branch budget/plan, in partnership with the Director of Retail Banking.  Develops strategies for the achievement of the branch financial plan and net income expectations through expense control management.
    • Manages conflict resolution issues with staff and employees, as well as customers.
    • Ensures Hold and Identity Theft procedures are followed to minimize deposit losses.
    • Responsible for the overall compliance of branch and branch staff with operational and security policies and procedures. Implements policy and procedural changes as necessary for regulatory or security compliance.  Continually enhances knowledge of bank regulatory and compliance issues. Expected to obtain satisfactory or better results on both internal and external exams and audits. Maintains the privacy and security control of all customer records.  Reports suspicious activity or lax security measures to supervisor.
    • Main point of contact at branch, for all departments housed at that branch, for facility matters. Acts as liaison with Bank’s Facility Manager and Building/Vendor contacts to address and resolve issues. Expected to ensure that branch facility and staff adhere to the Bank’s service, office and dress standards.

Job Qualifications

Four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with at least three years in a supervisory capacity is preferred.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Universal Banker I role.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises five non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
